Face of everybody, face of the city
Kawasaki City
In 1994, Kawasaki city in Kanagawa prefecture, held a design competition for the new city symbol,
as its 70th anniversary of municipal government enforcement.
Unosawa's design was shortlisted out of 6,000 works and selected as the winner by public voting.
Each figure on the symbol has meaning: a tree represents rich green nature, a heart indicates peace of mind for the residents, a river means beautiful water, and a red sun symbolizes passion for art.
Those figures come together and compose a charming and lively face of Kawasaki city.
This face was applied to any city facilities, including documents, buildings, media and
even manhole covers, as a friendly communication symbol to introduce Kawasaki city.
